UK VAT invoice generator
If you are VAT-registered in the UK, a “tax invoice” must show specific details — or your client cannot reclaim the VAT and HMRC can question the invoice. The preset below pre-fills GBP, 20% VAT and a VAT number line; check the full list before sending.
What a valid UK VAT invoice must contain
For supplies under £250 a simplified invoice can suffice; for anything above, a full VAT invoice is required. The checklist (per GOV.UK guidance — verify current rules at gov.uk before filing):
- A unique, sequential invoice number
- Your business name and address
- Your VAT registration number
- The issue date and the tax point date
- The customer’s name and address
- Description of goods or services
- The per-item rate and total amount, excluding VAT
- The VAT rate applied and the VAT amount charged
Disclaimer: general information, not tax advice. Rules differ for the VAT margin scheme, reverse charge and cross-border B2B supplies — confirm with your accountant.
